An exploit found by @Oranav is greatly appreciated by the whole community. Instead of reporting it to Apple some kind of compensation, he gave the heads up to the iphone-dev team. The world will be able to enjoy a fully software unlocked iPhone 3G - no matter what firmware, bootloader, or baseband you have, ultrasn0w will unlock it as long as you have the 3.0 firmware. From the looks of it, this may work for the iPhone 3GS, but we will know soon enough.

Glad to see this happening - full unlock for the iPhone 3G!

This will be released Friday indefinitely!  Check out the official iphone-dev team blog here!

Released only to developers, 3.0 GM is the final beta release. In the words of the wisest, BigBoss, “Do not yet upgrade”.  Plain and simple - if you plan to jailbreak (which you will need to stay unlocked and activated in most cases), don’t upgrade.

For the iPhone 3G - modem firmware 2.30 has yet to be unlocked.  From the looks of it, the dev-team has something up their sleeve, but not to “compromise any potential unlock”, which everyone should understand - they are not releasing anything just yet.

Excerpt from the iphone-dev team blog, “About the unlock (the real yellowsn0w): you all paid lots of money for your iPhones, and so we know that if you are depending on a software unlock, this is a sensitive issue.  It’s a very sensitive issue to us too, which is why we can’t say or release anything prematurely that could potentially compromise any 3.0 software unlock.  The commenters on this blog that have high ratings (20 or above) understand this intimately so please listen to them when they try to assist those waiting for any unlock :)” (read the full article here)

The iPhone 3GS will be released this week.  Looks exciting.. new camera.  Sweet.  That is all :P

On March 17th, Apple will be having a preview of the new iPhone OS 3.0.  As of now, features, bug fixes, etc were not were announced.  We’ll have to wait and see (sound familiar?).  Oh, and don’t count on the new firmware to be out anytime soon.  This seems like a special preview, kind of like what they did with 2.o - and brought it months later.  Atleast we can speculate, Apple loves that.

What kinds of features are you guys hoping for?  Maybe the Cydia Store built in?  :)
