George Hotz says, “yes i make it ra1n”, (or was that Fat Joe and Lil Wayne?)

I do not have a 3GS to currently test out, but looks like a simple plug, click, and jailbreak.  Again, do not upgrade to 3.1 if you plan on jailbreaking or even unlocking.

Working on a step by step guide right now for y’all.

CONFIRMED: Does NOT work with VMing to Bootcamp partition

In the meantime for those of you who figured it out and have it working, gpSPhone and psx4iphone will be available in Cydia very shortly.  I would highly recommend, if not strongly suggest that you try them.  You will see the full power of the 3GS with psx4iphone, I promise.

An exploit found by @Oranav is greatly appreciated by the whole community. Instead of reporting it to Apple some kind of compensation, he gave the heads up to the iphone-dev team. The world will be able to enjoy a fully software unlocked iPhone 3G - no matter what firmware, bootloader, or baseband you have, ultrasn0w will unlock it as long as you have the 3.0 firmware. From the looks of it, this may work for the iPhone 3GS, but we will know soon enough.

Skip to the 2:00 minute mark to see the demo.

Glad to see this happening - full unlock for the iPhone 3G!

This will be released Friday indefinitely!  Check out the official iphone-dev team blog here!

For those of you that are using T-Mobile in the US and are having trouble getting service using yellowsn0w, we found a tip made by the commenter “Richie Rich” on the iphone-dev blog. I personally tried this after some mishaps and made it work. I’m using T-Mobile in Chicago and it definitely saved me some waiting around for a different or newer solution.

And again, yellowsn0w is a beta product. The iphone-dev team guarentee jack squat except pure “l337ness”.

Here’s a few steps if you can’t get it to work:

  1. After installing yellowsn0w through Cydia, keep your T-Mobile SIM inserted.
  2. You must reset the network settings.  This is probably the most important step.
  3. Reboot your iPhone.
  4. Turn Airplane mode on (Settings > Airplane mode: ON).  Turn it off after a couple of seconds.
  5. You should see “searching” near the top, and this is when the glory happens.

Let us know if this worked for you either in the US or anywhere else in the world.  Keep in mind that T-Mobile USA uses a different 3G network than AT&T, so US iPhone 3G WILL NOT work on the T-Mobile 3G network.  You must DISABLE 3G network from the Settings pane.
